You should avoid deviating from their usual schedule if at all feasible. Despite this, it is realistic to predict that there will be some scenarios in which this will be impossible. Dogs are creatures of habit. They understand when it is time to get up and go for a walk, when it is time to feed, when it is time to cuddle up in their beautiful dog beds, and when it is time to urinate. This permits them to properly plan their everyday tasks. If you are consistent in this regard, there will be one less thing for them to be confused and anxious about, which will reduce some of their stress.
Take into account your travel plans.
During this transitional moment, a dog’s travel to its new home may be one of the most nerve-racking experiences. It is not a huge problem if you are only relocating a few streets away; however, if you are bringing them to a different city, state, or even a foreign country, you must consider the calmest and kind manner to carry your pet there. It is not a major deal if you are only moving them a few blocks. It is not a great problem if you are simply moving a few blocks away, as this distance is not deemed important. It is possible that traveling in a car with them for an extended amount of time will be tressful for both of you. If this happens, you will both need to take a break.
Provide them with items with which they are already familiar.
You may be tempted to take advantage of the opportunity given by moving in order to replace those old, worn-out food and water bowls with shiny new ones or to finally get rid of that tattered old bear that your dog has licked and chewed on to the point that it has lost an inch of its life. However, avoiding the need to do so will allow you to take advantage of the chance given by moving. Regardless, you should resist the urge. However, now is not the time to act because conditions are not optimal. Your dog has already experienced a substantial number of new settings and challenges to solve. Allow them to find peace in things they are already familiar with and enjoy doing.
