On the second day of its Inno Day event that took place in Shenzhen, China, Oppo launched its first mainstream folding phone, the Find N, which is more compact and affordable compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Most of the launch event covered foldable use cases and convinced users and media staff that how the form factor is now a necessary step in the evolution of smartphones.

Oppo Find N Price and Availability

For now, the Oppo Find N will be available only in China. The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage option is priced at CNY 7699 (approximately $ 1200) and the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage option will sell for CNY 8999 (or approximately $ 1400).

Oppo Find N Specifications

For starters, the Oppo Find N has a 5.49-inch (1972 x 988) bezel display and it folds out to reveal a larger 7.1-inch (1792 x 1920) LTPO display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate display. Adhering to the 18: 9 aspect ratio for the cover screen ensures that the main screen doesn’t feel strange to consumers, but it also means that the phone will be slightly wider than the Galaxy ZFold 3 in its folded state.

The 7.1-inch size offers 60 percent more viewing area than a normal 6.7-inch screen phone. Oppo studied the sound of the limo door closing to achieve a rewarding folding click for riders.

The gapless hinge that can be folded halfway has been designed to create a raindrop-shaped crease to minimize crease (similar to the hinges used by Motorola and Huawei). Oppo says that most of its R&D effort over 4 years went into perfecting this hinge and claims it made the fold noticeably less intrusive than the competition.

The folding screen has an ultra-thin glass layer that can withstand 200,000 folds.

On the software side, there are convenient ways to split the screen, pair apps, and multitask.

The Oppo Find N weighs 275g and is 15.9mm thick when folded. Snapdragon 888 octa-core chipset paired with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 of storage. The phone houses a 4500 mAh battery that supports 33 W fast charging and 15 W wireless charging.

As for optics, the main camera is a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor and is assisted by a 16MP ultra-wide camera and 13MP telephoto.

In addition to Find N, Oppo also introduced MariSilicon X ISP and Air Glass.

The Air Glass can display useful information directly in front of your eyes. It is comprised of two components, an opposing design frame that houses components such as the Snapdragon Wear 4100 Platform chipset and a snap-in monocular waveguide and a Spark microprojector that uses micro-LED technology to project information through the lenses of five element glass. Some advertised use cases include teleprompter, real-time translations, weather information, GPS navigation, and checking your phone’s notifications with a shake of the head.
